The massive five-foot diameter columns which adorn the Arlington House, now part of Arlington National Cemetery, were the inspiration for our Arlington column. In the erly 1800's, Arlington House was built by the step-grandson of George Washington and was the home of Robert E. Lee and his wife, Mary Custis.
